What is the foreign investment registration service in Colombia?

Our foreign investment registration service is designed to ensure that your funds enter Colombia legally, securely, and in full compliance with current exchange regulations.

We support you throughout the process—from planning the transfer to accurately completing the foreign exchange form that applies to your case.

Each currency conversion is considered a separate investment registration process, and proper documentation is essential to protect your capital.

Our team analyzes your specific case, identifies the correct procedure, and ensures that you meet all the requirements established by the Banco de la República, helping you avoid errors, penalties, and potential future restrictions when you invest in Colombia.

Registering your investment incorrectly in Colombia can put your funds at risk. Mistakes—such as skipping the foreign exchange form or completing it incorrectly—could prevent you from recovering your capital in the future, meaning you could lose your entire investment.

In addition, these errors can block key procedures, such as your immigration or tax filings. Our team ensures everything is properly registered from the beginning, so your investment is protected and you can operate in Colombia with peace of mind.

After the transfer is complete, you send us a summary of the operation (receipt or bank statement) so we can properly prepare the registration.

STEP 3: FOREIGN EXCHANGE REGISTRATION AND FUNDS RELEASE

With the necessary documentation, we organize and submit the foreign investment registration to the Banco de la República. Your investment is now officially registered, and your funds are available for use in Colombia.

Have questions about the foreign investment registration service in Colombia? We have the answers.

Yes. Any money entering Colombia as a foreign investment must be formally registered using the correct foreign exchange form. This is mandatory to protect your investment and to legally withdraw it in the future.

If you send money directly to a standard bank account without going through an authorized intermediary and without completing the proper form, there will be no official record of your capital as a foreign investment. This could prevent future withdrawal and affect immigration or tax processes.

Yes. To apply for any type of investor visa in Colombia, your capital must be properly registered as a foreign investment with the Banco de la República.

If you plan to invest in real estate to apply for a visa, the investment must be properly registered. You must also not be a tax resident at the time of registration, as this affects the process and may limit your visa eligibility.

If you are already a tax resident in Colombia, you cannot register your capital as a foreign investment. In that case, you would need to leave the country for at least six consecutive months to lose tax residency and then structure the entry of funds correctly.
