Visa M - Common Law Partnership
The Common law partnership visa is one of the Colombian visa types specifically granted to foreigners who have been in a relationship with a Colombian national or permanent resident, but are not married, the date of formalization of the marital union must be greater than one year at the time of the visa application.
Among the Colombian visa types, this visa can be granted for up to one year and allows the foreign partner to live and work in Colombia during this time.
After holding the visa for five years, the foreign partner can apply for a Colombian residency. This means that foreign partners who are not married must re apply for their visa annually.
To obtain a Colombian common law partnership visa, the foreigner must show evidence of a genuine relationship and proof of financial stability.
What are the requirements to apply for the Colombian M - Common Law Partnership Visa?
Document size digital picture of the applicant on a photography shop (3×4 Cm White background).
Copy of your passport’s main page.
Copy of the last entry, exit or safe-conduct stamp (It depends on the location of the foreigner).
A Copy of the last Colombian visa (if applicable).
Authentic copy of the public deed, court order or conciliation act, issued no more than three (3) months prior to the date of application, where the existence of the de facto marital union is declared. The date of formalization of the document must be greater than one (1) year at the time of the visa application.
Special power of attorney granted to request such visa with diligence of recognition of content and signature before a notary or Colombian consul.
Certificate of migratory movements issued by the Special Administrative Unit Migration Colombia.
If the application for a visa as a permanent partner of a Colombian national is presented before a Consular Office of the Republic, the valid document that proves the marital union in accordance with the laws of the place where its existence was declared will be accepted.
Letter signed by the Colombian permanent partner requesting the visa for his/her partner and committing to inform any change in the circumstances of the cohabitation:
- The letter must include a copy of the Colombian citizenship card and contact details of the Colombian partner.
- The Visa and Immigration Authority may require additional evidence that proves the effective existence of the relationship
