M - Business Owner / Shareholder Visa

When considering starting your own company or investing in an existing company in Colombia, the Colombian Migrant Business Owner / Shareholder Visa in fact may be the ideal visa for your case.

To be eligible for the Colombian Business Owner / Shareholder Visa you must invest 100 times the minimum salary into your company, that is $130’000.000 COP for 2024, this amount has to already be invested in participation or shares in the company. 

The M – Business owner/shareholder visa is granted for up to three years and allows you to apply for a Colombian Residency after holding it for five years.

What are the requirements to apply for the Colombian M - Business Owner / Shareholder Visa?

Document size digital picture of the applicant on a photography shop (3×4 Cm White background).

Copy of your passport’s main page.

Copy of the last entry, exit or safe-conduct stamp (It depends on the location of the foreigner).

Copy of the last Colombian visa (if applicable).

The letter of application should include essential details such as the company name, address, and Tax Identification Number (NIT) of the commercial company incorporated. Moreover, it should outline the main activity and specify the number of direct jobs it generates.

Demonstrate that the commercial company maintains economic activity and solvency by means of bank statements of the last three (3) months prior to the visa application.

For joint stock companies, the participation in the company will be accredited with a certificate of shareholding subscribed by a public accountant. Additionally, the capital amount may not be less than one hundred (100) legal monthly minimum wages in force (SMMLV).

In the case of the incorporation of companies in the energy mining sector, the corresponding mining title must be provided.

Demonstrate the incorporation of paid-in capital of a commercial company, or registration of foreign investment, for an amount not less than one hundred (100) minimum salaries (SMMLV).
